Intranets are normally used within an organisation for data transfering and access of day to day information. Overall people like working over the Intranet comparred to the Internet as it is much faster.
World Wide Web
The World Wide Web or also known as "WWW" actually offers a full integration of virtually all other Internet services on the Web. It is a hypermedia-based system for surfing Internet sites. It is nick named the Web as it is made out of many internet sites linked together. Surfers can jump from one site to another by clicking on hyperlinks. Text, graphics, sound and videos can be accessed with various browsers such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer.
Security Precautions
A hacker is a person who makes use of his knowledge about computer systems, networking and telecommunication to try to gain unauthorised access into a computer system. A hacker's main intention of breaking (hacking) into a computer systems is usually just to prove that he is technically more knowledgeable and skillful than others. There are some hackers who might carry out malicious activities like illegal access or modification of information.
Therefore people are advised to use an intranet's first line of defense which is password protection. A variety of security techniques, including encryption, helps ensure that passwords are kept secure. It is also necessary to ensure that passwords are changed frequently and are not common dictionary words which are used daily.
